This particular gaming category has been present in the industry for decades and still is considered a top-tier space. They have enthralled us and is still maintaining its momentum. In light of that, Mortal Kombat is one game that has been a partner for fighting game enthusiasts since their early days. Now, data reveals that Mortal Kombat is the most successful commercial hit compared to its competitors.

The first game in the franchise was released in 1992 October, and since then the brand is a common face in the industry. Mortal Kombat has been with us for more than 30 years now, and according to recent reports, it is the most successful fighting game in regard to sales. Since its release, Mortal Kombat was able to sell 80 million copies!

The game is setting a monumental milestone for its competitors with this remarkable feat. With more than 15+ playable characters, the game is widening its horizon, and will likely be aiming to increase this sale count even further. Another interesting fact about fighting game sales record is that Super Smash Bros holds the second position for most sales. Some might have thought it would be Tekken or even Street Fighter.

But, Super Smash Bros from Nintendo was able to sell 72. 39 million copies worldwide. This is just a shy short of 8 million compared to the #1 position holder Mortal Kombat. Other games in the top tier sales list include Tekken with 54+ million, Street Fighter with 49 million, and Soul Caliber with 17 million.

Additionally this year Mortal Kombat will likely increase its sales count as Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for release. Apart from this, fighting game enthusiasts will be treated to Street Fighter 6 this June and Tekken 8 during the latter part of the year.
