Uncharted is a very successful series, as is The Last of Us, and before that Naughty Dog worked on Crash Bandicoot, which has its own large share of fans. These fans have been waiting for the third installment in the Last of Us series.

And this anticipation for the next installment in this series has increased numerous times thanks to the recently aired HBO series. But recently, Neil Druckmann, the director of The Last of Us series, announced that developer Naughty Dog is working on a new game, but it’s not The Last of Us 3.

The Last of Us developer is working on a very different kind of game!

Recently, in an interview, Naughty Dog’s co-president revealed a bunch of details regarding the series he recently worked on and the games that his studio is in the process of making. He talked about how he would approach a Last of Us sequel if he ever decided to make one.

Then in a Noclip documentary, audio director Neil Uchitel went ahead and explained how making realistic and grounded games is harder than working in fantasy settings. He said, “Realism and sound are actually very difficult to recreate faithfully because when you do them incorrectly, it’s immediately noticeable. When there’s, you know, a big game that involves magic or, you know, sort of hyper-realism in a really substantial way, it’s easy to hide behind, you know, a big sound.”

Some fans have taken this comment of his as a sly hint at the next game he is working on. They are expecting Naughty Dog’s new game to be a fantasy title. If that’s true, nevertheless, it would still have a very engaging and heartfelt story with a message. Just like pretty much every game he has worked on before now.

It might just be possible that he is just talking about the development process. And that might have just led him to explain that difference.

Currently, though, the main strength of Naughty Dog is still working hard on that Last of Us multiplayer title, which would launch sometime later this year on PlayStation 5, 4, and maybe PC.
