Masahiro Sakurai has launched a channel on YouTube by the name “Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games.” While posting on Twitter, he tells the motivation behind producing content on the digital video platform.
He said, “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how I can give back to the game industry. By sharing my knowledge with all of you on YouTube, I hope I can help people better appreciate how games are made, and maybe even spark some interest in aspiring game developers.”

Most importantly, he has highlighted that he won’t be streaming games and will be focusing strictly on game development. In order to satisfy the language barriers, he will be posting content in Japanese and English.
Even though he would use the projects he did for Nintendo, the channel is his own personal endeavor. He said, “But just to be clear, Nintendo isn’t involved in this channel. Please understand that this is my own personal project.” Also, he said, “Every dev environment is vastly different and trade secrets must be kept secret.”
Sakurai has clarified that he deems to tell the audience about the concepts that are considered to be common knowledge in the game development field. His channel already has 325K subscribers and carries videos about certain concepts about game design and development.

Sakurai started his career in 1989 by working at HAL Laboratory. It was there he gave birth to the character Kirby and the game Kirby’s Dream Land. Moreover, he shaped the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64. In addition, he also designed games like Super Smash Bros. Melee, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Meteos. The video below was uploaded on his channel that displays the history of his creative works.
Above all, Sakurai is the founder of Sora Ltd., a freelance video game company. Given these points, he carries the aim of spreading awareness about game development and his channel could be a contributing factor in the field.
