Kevin Afghani, the new voice of Mario
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), voice actor Kevin Afghani made an announcement that grabbed everyone’s attention. In the post, he mentioned how he was proud to have voiced the titular character as well as Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. This is big news considering that the actor is going to be voicing one of the most iconic characters in Nintendo’s history. To add the cherry on top, he also voices Luigi.
The post read, “Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!”

Charles Martinet, who voiced Mario for 27 years, recently stepped down. So now, Afghani will have huge shoes to fill. In the meanwhile, Chris Pratt voiced the character in the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Prior to this role, Kevin Afghani was known for his role as Arnold in Genshin Impact, where he voiced an event-exclusive NPC. While this may not be as widely recognized as the Mario franchise, it demonstrates his experience in voice acting.

Two prospects for the role
Before the official announcement, there was uncertainty about who would voice Mario and Luigi. Stemming from a demo data mine that suggested Kevin Afghani and Mick Wingert as possible choices.

Initially, some fans thought Mick Wingert might be the new voice due to vocal similarities with the Talking Flower. Mick Wingert is also a famous American voice actor known for his work in Kung Fu Panda. However, his agents denied his involvement, confirming Kevin Afghani as the voice actor.
So it is safe to say the character is in safe hands. While Kevin Afghani has huge shoes to fill, the world will be thrilled to hear him when Super Mario Bros. Wonder releases on 20th October.
