The incident in question dates back to August 2022 in Arizona, US. The console made by Nintendo became the hero in bringing back a kidnapped teenager from an online predator.

In some recent court records made public, the FBI revealed Nintendo Switch became a vital component in locating a missing 15-year-old girl. She had been kidnaped by an online predator who abducted her from her home in Arizona. However, during the kidnapping the teenage girl held on to her Switch. She used the Switch to watch YouTube and download a game. But by doing so, she inadvertently helped in her finding.

The console alerts gaming friends via their own Switches whenever a player gets online. A friend of the 15-year-old saw her missing friend online and informed the authorities about it. This led to the FBI working together with Nintendo to find the digital footsteps of the missing girl. And after eleven days of search, the FBI finally found the teenager along with the kidnapper. The girl has since returned to her family and the online predator has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

This story has triggered the joyed responses of the fans. Retired Arizona DPS Director Frank Milstead said this incident is a warning for the bad guys. He said, “The bad guys need to know that the police are watching and that you’re leaving a digital footprint everywhere you go. We will find you.”
