Nintendo Switch 2 May Have This Massive Problem

The Japanese juggernaut of gaming, Nintendo, is working up to release its next console, which is most probably going to be the Switch 2. While the current Switch is, undoubtedly, a technical masterpiece, it clearly shows signs of age. The outdated hardware has made it fall behind the competitors, such as Sony and Microsoft, in terms of raw power.
The Switch was a revolution in the industry. It was one of the most innovative hybrid consoles ever to grace the public market. However, the innovation that allowed the system to seamlessly switch between console and docked play also made it lose a lot of its raw power. The compact, portable nature of the system made the hardware very limited.

Although the new console could be very impressive in terms of processing strength and innovation, the chipset choices in the current Switch may pose challenges in terms of making the existing game library compatible with future systems. That’s why users with big game libraries in the current Switch will be hit with this problem the most.

The culprit behind the problem is the choice of processing power in the current Switch, Nvidia Tegra X1. Although the chip possesses very decent processing speed in a very compact body, it was created for even older systems, such as the Nvidia Shield. Compared to Sony and Microsoft, the processor has no chance of surviving in terms of power.

Being such an outdated chip, games were made according to it, which means, to offer the current Switch games in a much more advance and up-to-date system, engineers would have to go the extra mile to emulate the chipset or build in as a coprocessor. However, this will factor into the marketing cost of the console.
“If Nintendo is to move away from the Tegra X1, which we all feel strongly that they will probably do, current Switch games won’t work on new hardware, that is without re-compiling the games to target that hardware,” according to Modern Vintage Gamer on YouTube, the probability of new Switch to be backward incompatible is very high.
