Nintendo video game library contains some truly remarkable titles. However, a recent game that is just hours away from its release is being dubbed an Animal Crossing rip-off (which it is not).

Although almost identical to the well-known Nintendo Switch game, this Bandai Namco game is designed for die-hard fans of fishing simulators and has a completely separate environment and plot. However, the question arises why is it regarded as a rip-off?

Ace Angler: Fishing spirits gets mistaken as an Animal Crossing rip-off

Ace Angler: Fishing Spirits is a sequel to the 2019 game by the same name Ace Angler. Notably, the game focuses on catching fish and other aquatic animals while opening and managing an aquarium. However, there is a slight chance that you may find it very similar to the popular Nintendo franchise, Animal Crossing.

The main reason why the game is getting mistaken as an Animal Crossing rip-off is because of its character design and mechanics. Notably, the characters in the game look very similar to that of the Animal Crossing villagers. The main feature of the character model used in the game can be specified as small-sized, big-eyed, and simplistic facial structures.

Whereas the original Animal Crossing has a distinctive base-building type of gameplay, Ace Angler Fishing spirits also move on the same path, but with an aquarium-type location. It is also to be noted that the game has the same comic book-style font display method to show any character interaction.

Why is Nintendo Switch’s Ace Angler: Fishing Spirits different?

It is different because of many reasons, and one of them is the high-octane mini-games that the players have to play in order to expand their Aquarium Themed Park. Also, the animation for mostly every mini-game is different from the actual characters in the game, which makes it look like the game has two different art styles.

Apart from this, the game also has a reward system that is not matched to any previous Nintendo game, or even the Bandai Namco game.
