Nintendo fans miss Super Smash Bros. at EVO
Across the years Super Smash Bros. has not only been a constant at EVO but has been the source of some of its most memorable moments. From underdogs rising to prominence to the infamous Bayonetta moment at Evo 2018’s Smash 4 grand finals. It’s not an understatement to call Super Smash Bros. a mainstay of the Evolution Championship Series.
Therefore, when Nintendo announced the game wouldn’t return to EVO 2022, it was an immense surprise for the community. Especially since the series has featured in the tournament since 2007. The Japanese video game giant did not explain the cause of this drastic decision, but fans have theorized Sony’s purchase of EVO might have contributed to it.

The official EVO twitter handle also put out a statement on the matter on February 26:

“Since 2007, we’ve seen historic Super Smash Bros. moments created at Evo’s events. We are saddened that Nintendo has chosen not to continue that legacy with us this year. In the future, we hope to once again celebrate the Super Smash Bros. community alongside them.”
As can be expected, EVO isn’t the only one missing the title in their lineup.
Some fans have a very emotional outlook on the matter.
