However, Nintendo wants to make sure that the functioning of its headquarters continues even in the worst possible situation. And for this purpose, they already have some great plans. Especially for a scenario of an uncertain event like an earthquake.

Nintendo president reveals plan to stay operative in case of an earthquake in the Kyoto headquarters

It is reported that about 18.5 percent of the world’s earthquakes take place in Japan, as per the information from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Tourism. This is despite the fact that the country’s land covers only 0.25 percent of the planet.

Given such vulnerable state, it becomes important to always take proper measures in order to stay safe. Nintendo follows this rule quite strictly as it recently revealed how it’s going to deal with a disaster situation, should a major quake ever affect its Kyoto headquarters in Japan.

As reported by VGC, president Shuntaro Furukawa recently attended the Annual General Meeting of the firm. There was also a shareholder Q&A in the meeting where the company was asked about its plan on how it will continue operating during a natural disaster.

President Furukawa replied by emphasizing that they have the plan ready. Even for a situation of an earthquake affecting its Kyoto HQ. He mentioned to be having a “documented response plan and have implemented various proactive measures so that we can restore operations as quickly as possible”.

“If a disaster occurs, we will convene a disaster response committee headed by the president that will act to confirm the safety of our employees, protect the integrity of company property, and secure personnel and communication systems for the recovery effort,” he said.

Nintendo’s president added that they have also made data backups. They have managed to do that with the help of different manufacturing partners, to make sure that the amount of disruption is minimal. And yes, the data backups also include the games that are currently in development.

Moreover, they also conduct disaster response training, according to Mr. Furukawa. They will keep focusing on providing the best ‘Business Continuity Plan’ as per the development of their business.

Meanwhile, the Japanese gaming giant has this year covered already in terms of offering new releases. The second half of 2022 is packed with a promising line-up, with the likes of Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
