Nintendo has always had a reputation for being really strict about game quality and making sure their games are original. But lately, there’s been a lot of talk about Nintendo not being able to keep up with these standards anymore. One of the most recent examples is a game that looks a lot like The Last Of Us.

It was released on Nintendo’s eShop. So, what are the similarities?

The Last Hope – Dead Zone Survival is a game developed by VG Games and released on the Nintendo eShop. It caught the attention of many because it looks so much like The Last of Us! The artwork, which features a girl who looks a lot like Ellie, is a clear reference to Naughty Dog’s masterpiece. However, VG Games didn’t use Joel and Ellie in their game. Instead, they called their Ellie equivalent “the girl.”

With a description that claims to “protect an innocent girl from ruthless zombies”, The Last Hope attempts to live up to The Last of Us’ captivating narrative. However, it’s clear that this rip-off isn’t up to The Last’s standard in terms of quality and experience. At £0.99 it’s easy to see why players shouldn’t expect a journey quite like the one in The Last of Us.

Nintendo’s surprising oversight

The weirdest thing about this whole thing is that The Last Hope isn’t even on the eShop! It might seem like a good thing for developers to get some attention, but the fact that it’s still out there makes you wonder what Nintendo’s quality control is all about.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Last year, fans of the mobile game Left 4 Dead were disappointed to find out that the game’s mobile spinoff was a knockoff, lacking even the most fundamental elements, such as zombies. Furthermore, it appears that a number of titles on the Nintendo Store that imitate the original games, such as “Plants Vs. Zombies”, “Need for Speed”, “Mad Max”, and “Subway Surfer”, are produced by the same publisher, and a few other companies. These games lack the originality and quality of the original games they are attempting to emulate.

Nintendo’s recent slip-up with The Last Hope showing up on their eShop raises questions about how authentic and unique the Switch games are. It’s not a good sign, but it just goes to show that more needs to be done to make sure titles are properly checked and evaluated before they hit the gaming world. Fans are always looking forward to new games, so Nintendo needs to make sure they’re up to scratch. By enforcing stricter quality control rules, Nintendo can protect its reputation for being a platform that gives great gaming experiences while also protecting the interests of both developers and gamers.
