Yet again, a gaming adaptation has achieved tremendous response from the audience. There always was an unsaid curse that was looming large on adaptations based on popular games. The Last of Us became a massive hit and broke those shackles, and the Super Mario Bros movie has followed its path.

After the very first day of its release, the Super Mario Bros. movie has surpassed several records. The movie has etched many dream numbers and milestones across the world, marking its massive success.

The Super Mario Bros movie was one of the most anticipated titles of the year. The movie pulled a whopping $32 million domestically ($26 million was the expected turnout). From the international market, the movie was able to garner $34 million, making the grand opening a massive $66.4 million. In the US alone, the movie beat Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and now has the biggest debut of a video game adaption.

It was the biggest debut for a Universal movie in Mexico. But the highlight lies elsewhere. The movie is the second biggest opening for an animated film in Mexico, falling a bit short of Toy Story 4.

United Kingdom

In the UK, the Super Mario Bros movie created history as it became the best-animated movie opening in the region. The film additionally had the biggest opening day as well. It also set a Universal Studios record in the UK as the release day was Universal’s best Wednesday of all time.

China

The movie is currently marked as the biggest Hollywood animated film since the start of the pandemic. Additionally, the film is also the second-biggest opener for a studio title in 2023.

Germany

Yet again a Universal Studios record was set. The film became Universal’s biggest opening of all time in Germany. The movie additionally witnessed the second biggest opening day turnover of April in the country (Avengers Endgame remains in the top position). The film also has the best opening day since the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Spain

The Super Mario Bros movie surpassed the debut records of both Avatar: Ways of the Water and Doctor Strange 2 in the country. (Biggest opening since the pandemic). Just like Germany, it has the second biggest April debut while Endgame still holds the first position.

France & Italy

The movie has the best opening in France this year and marked Illumination’s best opening in the country. Moreover, the film has the second biggest April opening, falling short of first place, which is held by Ice Age 2.

The Movie took 70%  of the Italian market. It is also the biggest opening for an animated film and video game adaptation in the country during the springtime.

Central America

The Mario movie opened to be the second biggest debut for a film. Compared to Despicable Me and Minions, the film earned double on day one.
