The YouTube Streamy Awards 2022 was one of the craziest events in recent memory! Many unexpected names made it big and bagged the accolades on the night. Youngsters were the majority in the nominations. But veteran YouTubers also prevailed, such as Markiplier, who shocked the community by lifting the ‘Gamer’ award, a category mostly dominated by teens and young adults. 

The Streamy Awards 2022 was unlike the previous years. This year’s show, presented by Streamlabs, was streamed exclusively from Airrack’s YouTube channel. It was the first time the event was streamed from a creator’s channel. 

It featured many performances by well-known artists, including hip-hop star Yung Gravy. Gravy performed his hit song “Betty (Get Money)” with a backdrop of creator videos performing on the viral song. This year, the most successful creator was Mark Rober. 

Rober is an inventor and engineer, who spent 9 years working at the prestigious American space research center, NASA. He was the top winner of the 2022 Streamy Awards, winning four accolades- creator for social good, collaboration, science and engineering, and Streamys Brand Awards: brand engagement. He was followed by MrBeast who won three awards, including the ‘Creator of the Year’. 

Markiplier wins the best ‘Gamer’ of the year at Streamy Awards 2022

Mark Edward Fischbach, aka Markiplier is an American YouTuber with over 19 billion total views on his channel and 34 million subscribers. Mark is one of the OG gaming content creators on YouTube. He is considered one of the Big Three of YouTube gaming, including PewDiePie and Jacksepticeye.

In the YouTube Streamy award show, held on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, Markplier was awarded the ‘Gamer’ award. His fellow nominees in the category were Aphmau, Dream, LazarBeam, and TommyInnit. Markiplier also won the award for the best ‘scripted series’ for his show “Markiplier in Space”.

How did the fans react to Markiplier winning the award? 

Fans were exalted to see the veteran gaming YouTuber win the award. They expressed their happiness and praised the creator with a plethora of ‘W’s and opened up about how much Mark means to them. But there were also some fans who were having a hard time believing that Mark was the man who lifted the award among all the new talents such as Tommyinnit and Dream. 

Seeing one of the first let’s play YouTubers still be this relevant truly proves that YouTube is a timeless platform.
