The original print of the film has been on YouTube for years. But the new version of this 1986 Super Mario Bros anime looks clean. Back in the day, the original was made with a 16mm reduction tape used for small screenings whereas the new one has used improved cinematography, graphics, colors, and other things, which looks like nothing but a 21st-century film.

Carnivol, a Nintendo fan, tried his hand at restoring the film. He only reached up to a scanning point but gave up as he could not find the right direction for the later process. Things started falling into place after years when FemboyFlims teamed up with him to give it a final try. After a handful of sleepless nights and sheer hard work, they finally restored it.

With today’s advanced technology, Femboy has captured the original VHS with an audio – capture. Femboy commented, “The VHS was originally released with 2-channel Dolby Surround, which is preserved in the audio capture here.”

Storyline of the Nintendo’s strange anime

One night while playing Famicom, Mario has a surprise visit from the gorgeous Princess Peach, who is on the run from the wicked King Koopa. King Koopa appears and kidnaps her, leaving behind the pendant she wears all the time. The next day, a tiny dog named Kibidango shows up at Mario and his brother Luigi’s grocery shop and steals the diamond.

The Mario Brothers pursue him and eventually find themselves in the Mushroom Kingdom, where they encounter the wise old Mushroom Hermit. The Mystic informs them that they have been sent to the Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess Peach, whom King Koopa plans to marry on Friday the 13th, and the inhabitants of the kingdom.
