PlayStation 5 Holds the Edge Over Xbox Series X|S in Post-Launch Sales Despite the Latter’s Late Surge

When it comes to the console war, there’s been no rivalry as iconic as the one between PlayStation and Xbox. Ever since these two platforms came into existence, gaming fanboys have kept their voices high, defending their preferred brands. But there’s nothing new about this, as everyone knows the universal fact already.

What’s new is the reveal of some really interesting sales figures for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in the United States. This is one region that matters a lot to both Microsoft and Sony, in terms of checking their positions in the ongoing phase of the industry.

The latest Xbox Series X|S shines despite being second best in the US after PlayStation 5

VGChartz came up with a sales report for both the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, 16 months after their respective releases. In case you missed it, the next-gen consoles launched almost simultaneously back in November 2020.

For those curious to know the actual figures, PlayStation 5 has sold over 6.77 million units in the last sixteen months. However, the Xbox Series X|S is not far behind either. Microsoft’s console has also managed to sell over 6.22 million units in the US for the same duration.

So the PlayStation 5 outperformed the Series X|S by 546K sold units in the United States.

However, despite being the second best-selling platform in sales, it’s interesting to note that, the Xbox Series X and S did close the gap in the last three months. This implies that people have shown a lot of interest in Microsoft’s newest gaming console line-up.

Moreover, speaking of the last 12 months, then the Xbox Series X|S has outshined PlayStation 5 by 1,716 units. While Sony’s product has a market share of 52.1 percent, Microsoft’s latest-generation has a share of 47.9 percent at the moment.
