The concept in itself is adventurous, but there have been some mishaps that happened in the PlayStation staff circle because of an AAA multiplayer which is under development. This has reportedly resulted in a series of lay-offs by the popular brand.

PlayStation Visual Arts lay off employees after a change in a massive AAA multiplayer

The world is currently witnessing massive layoffs among eSports organizations. The Guard recently laid off many of their employees, followed by FaZe who direly needed economic sustainability. Though being a billion-dollar industry, even gaming franchises are now following the layoff trend. The recent layoff incident in the industry is by PlayStation Visual Arts.

John Borba who was a Project Coordinator at PlayStation stated that the layoffs were a cause of a ‘ large pivot on the AAA multiplayer game’. He took to his professional LinkedIn account to share the saddening news. But, this particular post has gone viral in the online community, and netizens are currently researching to find out which is the multiplayer PlayStation AAA title in question.

Recently, Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog was seen talking about the prospective multiplayer of their marquee product the Last of Us. Some speculate that the game in question is this product.

Whereas some others feel that the Last of Us is still fully under development, and the current layoffs are not related to it. This pushed PlayStation enthusiasts to another theory. Some state that the multiplayer that the former staff mentioned was a product from Deviation Games. Reportedly, this game has been under development since 2020. So, there might be chances that the layoffs occurred to push the studio out of developmental hell. But this too is a suspicion raised by the fans.

There are also theories regarding the leaked Forbidden West footage, which many believes is the major AAA multiplayer that was mentioned in the post. Currently, the community is under dark clouds as there are no official updates from PlayStation itself. We can hope that they don’t make us stand in the dark for much time, but the chances of the full picture coming out are slim.
