Despite the fact that it’s been out for more than 25 years, the classic Pokemon Trading Card game is still popular among the fans worldwide. So much so, that some of them even try to go to extreme lengths in order to get their favorite Pokemon cards. Even if it means doing fraudulent activities!

Something like that actually happened with a person who tried to attempt a scam, just to get Pokemon Trading cards. Surprisingly, this person was none other than a Kansas City police officer.

A officer loses his job for trying to scam the store for buying Pokemon trading cards

The Pokemon TCG (Trading Card Game) is a collectible card game and was initially developed by Creatures Inc. based on the beloved franchise. It was originally published in the year 1996 by Media Factory in Japan. In the United States, the TCG was first published by Wizards of the Coast. Over the last two decades, this game has sold over 40 billion cards across the globe.

As reported by Kansas City news website, a police officer lost his job after he tried to scam a nearby store for buying the Pokemon cards. He was discharged from the service by his county sheriff’s office.

The incident dates back to May 2022 when the officer tried to purchase a dozen boxes of TCG after tampering with their original packaging. He did it by sticking the barcodes from other less costlier products he had at home; he put them over the TCG boxes’ original labels.

After pasting the fake stickers, he tried to pay the fraudulently discounted prices. But just before making the check-out, the officer was captured by the store’s Asset Protection Investigator. Per the reports, the trading cards were worth $400, that the police officer tried to buy using unacceptable means.

Meanwhile, when it comes to the Pokemon franchise itself, it’s growing constantly at a rapid pace. Apart from the TCG, the video games based on the hit series are also swaying the fans worldwide. This year alone has witnessed a blockbuster in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Moreover, another offering is on its way this month in Scarlet and Violet.

The upcoming games will be the first installments in the ninth generation of the overall gaming saga. They will be available on the Nintendo Switch handheld console, starting from November 18th, 2022.
