While Xbox has been enjoying an eventful year of business, it hasn’t been an ideal run for the Sony console giant. A few weeks back, Sony decided to drop the prices of the PS5 significantly all around the globe. The decision was made considering a major lineup of releases Sony has planned in the second half of 2023. Among them is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. With so much at stake for Sony with the upcoming Spider-Man, the PS5 drop is a reasonable marketing move.

PS5 hardware is ‘the highest priority of Sony’, claims Sony COO
The company COO Hiroki Totoki made some major revelations about the sales numbers of PS5 in the latest financial call. Although Sony has made efforts to keep up with the moves of its rivals, specifically Microsoft and Nintendo, there have been some setbacks.
In the first 31 weeks of the year, PS5 unit sales went up 73%. The sales made up 47% of all console sales this year. According to the reports submitted, Japan and Asia remain among the biggest contributors to PS5 purchases. The response of North America and Europe has also been quite favorable to Sony’s latest advertisements. But the point of concern for the developers is the United Kingdom sales numbers, which Totoki called ‘a bit weak.’

Contrary to what the reports suggest, the developers are certain of a possible sales surge in the UK. The claims are backed by a solid advertising campaign planned by the console giants before the release of Spider-Man 2. The upcoming title is a huge call for Sony’s revival in the console rivalry.
