Recent ‘The Last of Us’ Series Trailer References the Second Video Game in an Unusual Way That You Might Miss

The Last of us is Sony’s multimillion-dollar franchise. When the Last of Us launched years ago for PlayStation, it changed people’s outlook on video games. And when the sequel launched in 2020, it changed people’s outlook on video games even further.

This critically acclaimed series of third-person action-adventure horror games are based in an apocalyptic world full of weird creatures and weirder people. And currently, its creators are hard at work developing a series based on it with HBO.

The series is set to star the likes of Padro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, and Nick Offerman.

The Last of Us series trailer has a lot hiding in plain sights

Recently, HBO decided to give us a better look at the series with a new trailer. This trailer showed fans of the world and gave them a better look at all its characters. And most importantly, it revealed the release date for the series to fans.

The trailer features a couple of scenes where we can hear “Take On Me” by A-ha playing. This song would mean a lot more for fans of the game. Especially those who actually played the sequel and thoroughly explored the Seattle area with Dina.

In Seattle, while exploring, the players find a music store with a bunch of musical instruments. Naturally, Ellie gets stoked looking at this stuff around her (because she shared Joel’s love for music). And when she finds a guitar, players can interact with it and play it.

She then goes on to sing this very song for Dina. To fans, this song was more than just a reference to a bygone era or Joel. It was basically a message from people looking for the last shred of hope in a hopeless world.

It would be hard to tell how many players are aware of this scene because it is completely optional. But one thing is for sure, the makers of this series knew exactly what they were doing when they added this song in the trailer.

And it seems to have worked. Fans all over are recognizing it and taking it as a hint that there would be a lot more of The Last of Us Part 2 in this series. Even though the upcoming series is mostly based on the first game.
