With Summer Games Fest 2023 fully underway, fans had the chance to take a peek at some of the top titles releasing shortly. With the announcement of Marvel’s Spider-Man taking place a little while ago, fans got a better look at the game. Insomniac Games Director Brian Horton came on stage to reveal more about the sequel at the Summer Games Fest 2023. In addition to revealing the game’s release date, Horton showed off incredible moments from the game.

At the Summer Games Fest 2023, Brian Horton showed fans artwork from the upcoming title Spider-Man 2, revealing more details about a certain symbiote in the game.

Is Venom Spider-Man’s friend or foe?

In late May, fans had a chance to see a gameplay demo of Spider-Man 2. Fans were treated to seeing both Miles and Peter, as well as the symbiote Venom. While Venom’s inclusion in the game is not as much of a surprise after being teased in the last game, fans do not know what direction his story will take.

Among the artwork revealed at the Summer Games Fest, Venom’s came through. The image shows Venom fighting both Miles and Peter, in mid-air in the streets of New York. However, this is not the most shocking thing about the symbiote.

When asked who Venom’s host was, Horton’s response was particularly evasive. He said, “It is not Eddie Brock. Our goal was to tell an original story, something you haven’t seen in the comics movies yet. We love Venom for a reason. All the things you love about the character are going to be there but how the story plays out, who is Venom? You have to play the game.”

Eddie Brock, who has been Venom’s host in the past, will not play host to the symbiote in the game. Fans speculate it is Harry Osborn instead. During the first game, Harry Osborn makes a small appearance in the credits scenes, in both the main game and the DLC. Suspended in a tank of green liquid to treat his illness, we see a black substance attached to Harry. Fans think this might be Venom who dons the role of an antagonist for our foes.

The Insomniac Games staff member even divulged more details about the type of gameplay fans can expect with Venom.

Horton opens up about Venom gameplay in Spider-Man 2

As for how Venom plays in-game, Horton had this to say. “I think you saw it in the real power, the strength, the transformation of Peter’s moves in that gameplay reveal. We column the acrobatic improviser, him and Miles. You can tell there’s a lot more strength, more real power, aggression which you saw in the moves. It’s not just what happens at gameplay. It’s the story and how it plays out. There is much more of that journey.”
