While we still wait for Call of Duty: Vanguard, it appears as if Activision already has a whole new game in its pipeline. According to new leaks, Activision is working on the sequel to the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game.

The leak comes from a notable Call of Duty leaker named Tom Henderson and, as per him, the new game can make its way next year. Activision has not confirmed anything as of now, so it’s better to take this news with a grain of salt.

Codenamed Project Cortez, a new Call of Duty game is in development and will be a continuation of 2019’s Modern Warfare

In his tweet, Tom says that a Call of Duty: 2022 game is in the works and is codenamed Project Cortez. The game is suspected to be a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019. Check out his tweet below.

If this is true, then it might mean that Infinity Ward will again head the development of this alleged game. Activision had validated earlier that all of its main studios are working on some kind of COD game.

The 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare did end on an open ending note with Captain Price meeting station chief Kate Laswell to discuss the creation of Task Force 141 in preparation against the Russian terrorist Victor Zakhaev. Captain Price also reviewed the files of possible recruits with Laswell: Garrick, John “Soap” MacTavish, and Simon “Ghost” Riley.

The 2022 game might explore this idea further. And with the upcoming Vanguard, the main campaign is said to revolve around the formation of Task Force One during the events of the story. It will be interesting to see how Activision includes all of these together if the leak is deemed true.

With that said, Activision is yet to confirm whether any such project is in development or not and if it is, whether it will be a continuation to the 2019 Modern Warfare or not.
