Pokemon content creators are in a tough spot at the moment. Instagram has banned several creators who make Pokemon-themed content. While an explanation hasn’t been provided by the social media platform, fans have been quick to speculate about the reasons. With Pokemon-related things becoming more popular among the community every day, the ban comes as a jolt out of the blue.

While banning individuals on different platforms has become common these days, issuing a carpet ban on a whole community generally requires a clear reason. However, no light has been shed on the matter in this case. Content creators are already looking for other places where they can upload their videos and other forms of content.

The Instagram ban has the entire Pokemon community worried

The ban first broke among the Pokemon Trading Card community. Many of the community members received messages notifying them that their Instagram accounts have been put on hold. While this was alarming enough for many, things were about to get a lot worse.

Lately, Instagram have been banning accounts with the name “Pokémon” or even “Poke.” As you can see, my Instagram name is incredibly rare and very sought after by many. Instagram ended up banning this account, but I appealed it and actually got it back very fast. I wonder why? Any ideas?

Many creators soon reported that their accounts have been permanently banned. While some creators managed to solve the problem simply by logging out and back in and verifying their credentials, others haven’t been so lucky. The standard recovery process hasn’t worked even after appeals to revoke the ban and creators are at a loss.

What’s even more interesting is that several banned creators have previously been involved with The Pokemon Company. This suggests the ban comes as a decision from Instagram itself.

Probable reasons for the ban

While PokeRev managed to get out of the sticky situation easily, others like PokiChloe and Pokemonlover still haven’t been able to get back their accounts. All of these content creators have many followers, who are also baffled by the mystery shrouding the entire situation. Someone on Reddit suggested that Instagram may be flagging the word ‘Pokemon’ or even ‘Poke’ for that matter.

While getting a ban for going “against community guidelines” can be pretty unnerving for most, there’s still some light at the end of the tunnel. Instagram parent Meta has actually provided a specified time period to each creator within which they can appeal for a reconsideration of the ban. While some speculate that usage of particular hashtags may have resulted in the ban, others think certain bio descriptions or links may have triggered the mass ban.

Do you think the ban will be lifted soon? How would you feel if Instagram treated you the same way?
