With the release of Gotham Knights, the reviews are in. But the fact that the game is more about fighting crime and less about a story plot makes it feel like a simulator.

With four main characters and the involvement of the court of Owls and other supervillains, Gotham Knights have a strong sense of duty but lack conviction. (Spoilers!) With Batman and commissioner Gordon dying in the first few minutes of the game, it is now up to Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Hood to save Gotham City.

Gotham Knights is good at initiating but lacks continuity

During the first few hours of the game, the story might hook players for a much more deeply layered storyline than shown in the trailers. But as you progress through the story, it becomes almost clear that you are just trying to protect Gotham in the absence of Batman.

Gotham Knights, although has some brilliant set pieces at times, it somehow doesn’t have the required variety that the previous Batman games had in them. Even if you try to see it differently from a Batman game, it feels repetitive because of the combat system that has almost the same kind of grinding mindset as every other video game.

The stealth portions of the game are relatively weak and the only strong points in the combat are the take-down animations. Apart from this, the characters have to travel through an enormous Gotham city manually as mostly all the bat vehicles get destroyed at the very beginning.

Apparently, all four characters have different types of styles and specialties, which helps in making the game lengthy. But that too becomes relatively boring as the same missions and side quests are being played time and over. The main quest of the game is relatively short and can be completed within a few hours.

Is the game worth it?

If you are looking for old Batman nostalgia, then the answer is no. However, if you want to play a superhero crime simulator, then Gotham Knights can be a perfect choice for gamers this year. But then again, the choices of the audience vary, and it might not harm one to give it a try just for the sake of it.

The game is available for PC, Xbox X|S, and PlayStation 5. It also has a co-op feature to allow friends to play the game together.
