Roblox gearing toward becoming a dating platform

In their latest Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) 2023 keynote, CEO David Baszucki made some predictions about the platform. One of his predictions stated, “For 17+ verified people in 17+ experiences: Thousands of adults will meet for the first time in Roblox dating experiences and subsequently form real-life relationships.”

This prediction came as a surprise to many fans. However, this is one of the predictions that can become true the fastest. The company has recently included some experiences on its platform exclusive to 17+ verified members. Furthermore, developers will add tools to help players create their avatars using just images and text prompts.

These steps will further enhance the virtual dating experience they are planning to offer. Coupled with the upcoming video chat feature Roblox Connect, dating in the metaverse will soon become a reality. However, CEO David Baszucki also delivered other predictions that took the netizens by surprise.

Other predictions made for the gaming platform

Along with the dating predictions, Baszucki also claimed their employees will also be using the platform for their meetings. Furthermore, he claimed, “A Fortune 500 company will use a Roblox experience as part of their recruiting process”. He also stated a school will be using its platform to teach their students. Furthermore, Baszucki claimed, “We will share a universal civility metric, and show that for most players, it increases over time.”

Some of his predictions, however, looked like a long shot. Baszucki claimed Roblox will be used for communication. He also claimed the role of a virtual fashion designer will start to gain traction from their platform. This growth will lead to a Roblox developer getting valued at $1 billion.

Finally, he claimed, “A musician will perform live to over 1M people on Roblox, using a phone for motion capture.”

While all of his predictions will take some time to materialize, it remains to be seen how Roblox will manage to provide a dating experience, and how it plays out.
