Rumor: SEGA is Planning to Revive Two Legendary Franchises, Altered Beasts and Gunstar Heroes

The ongoing year has been a story of revisits for Esports. A lot of the industry giants have invested in the nostalgia factor in the first half of 2023. The fans were constantly offered actual or speculated remakes of cult classics. Surprisingly, the bankability of the revival of old gameplay has only increased over time. In a similar turn of events, another industry giant SEGA has hinted at the possibility of reviving two immensely popular games. 

SEGA as a gaming developer hasn’t had the most ideal of the last few years. The Japanese game developing company is considered one of the finest gaming developers with classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat 2, Aladdin, Shinobi, and Phantasy Star 4 under their label. The elite list mostly has mentioned from the early years of eSporting evolution. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been able to keep up the impact for the past few years. But with the latest rumors, SEGA might be planning a comeback in style.

It seems like gaming fans are set for another nostalgic treat. In the latest episode by Spheshal Nick on Xbox Era Podcast, the latter revealed some exciting insiders on the future plans of SEGA. According to the creator’s sources, the Japanese gaming developers have plans to bring back Gunstar Heroes and Altered Beast. 

  • Gunstar Heroes 

Originally released in the year 1993, the title revolves around two characters trying to stop an evil Empire from recovering four powerful gems, an old version of the infinity stones. The game involves fun fusions of guns and other weapons for battling the evil army.

  • Altered Beast

A more narrative-focused title was developed and published by SEGA in 1998. The game was heavily inspired by Greek mythology. Players could explore different magical forms of beasts which made it an innovative experience back then. 

Both titles have an established set of fan base. The rumors surrounding their revival might hit the right nostalgic chord for all the millennial gamers. Although the source hasn’t confirmed the form through which SEGA plans a revival. Some fans hope the makers go on for a sequel of the Giants while others are rooting for another classic revised remake.
