It has been four years since the release of a new Mortal Kombat game. And fans are desperate to experience the brutal, gore-filled combat that has become the franchise’s trademark. Moreover, a recent Twitch clip from Jeff Grub revealed Playstation Showcase is happening in May. In turn, fans have started connecting the dots and wonder if this is where they announce the new Mortal Kombat sequel.

And they may be on the right track thanks to new rumors. While NetherRealm Studios did not announce any particulars, the Q4 2022 earnings call from Warner Bros. revealed some details about the sequel.

Mortal Kombat coming to PlayStation Showcase

The first major reveal of the new title came from the CEO of Warner Bros. David Zaslav. He revealed the secret to investors too soon, stating that the latest Mortal Kombat 12 will release this year. Now, the XboxEra Podcast host has also suggested the announcement of NetherRealm’s new title is happening next month.

In the podcast, host and industry insider Nick Baker leaked a potential third-party game coming to the PlayStation Showcase. While hesitant to reveal the game at first, he mentioned Sony pulling off games that get leaked and revealing them later. He finally gave in and revealed Mortal Kombat to be the third-party game coming to the showcase.

Rand_Al_Thor_19, another YouTuber present in the podcast agreed with him. “Where else would you reveal Mortal Kombat 12 besides at a Sony show,” He said. When asked why, he said, “Because I would imagine Sony’s gonna have the marketing for Mortal Kombat 12.”

Insider backs the rumors of next month’s launch

Another industry source, Jez Corden, appears to have hinted in a recent tweet that Mortal Kombat 12 will be revealed in May. He replied to a tweet from a fan that hoped the new title is as fun as the earlier series of the game. This tweet got a mysterious reply from Corden who asked the fan to wait until next month.

The fans should take all of these rumors with a grain of salt. Although, these leaks have made it very plausible for Mortal Kombat to have a showcase in PlayStation Showcase. While it is also possible that NetherRealm Studios takes a whole different route and host a launch of the game themselves.
