Nintendo has left its mark on the handheld console segment with the massively popular Nintendo Switch. The titular handheld has been a fan favorite since its launch back in 2017 and has also seen significant variants as the Switch OLED and Switch Lite. However, as years have rolled by, the console has shown signs of age. While the Switch still dominates the market, the hardware risks being outdated.

Accordingly, fans have demanded Nintendo green light a Switch Pro, reinvigorating the platform. But details on such a venture have been scarce until today. YouTube channel SwitchForce recently released a video that could offer a serious peak into a potential Switch successor.

Nintendo could bless fans with a “Super” Switch soon!

SwitchForce previously reported on an Nvidia leak, which indicated a Switch 2 might already be in the works. To be more precise, it’s been under development for three years at this point. Significantly, Zach from SwitchForce noted that the ‘nvn’ files that are associated with DLSS, Nvidia’s up-scaling algorithm, can’t run on the current Switch hardware. So the leaked nvn files potentially hint at a Switch upgrade.

However, fans are lucky enough to get yet another nugget of information regarding the rumored upgrade. Zach emphasizes that one of the biggest problems regarding the Switch Pro is the name itself. While it fits perfectly on an Apple or PlayStation device, it sounds off for Nintendo. And according to a recent leak by prominent leaker markomaro, the Japanese video game giant might have noticed.

The tweet might allude to the next Switch ditching the ‘Pro’ naming scheme that has become so common in the industry. After all, ‘Super’ is synonymous with Nintendo’s branding. Zach notes Super Switch is a callback to Super Nintendo, one of Nintendo’s most successful ventures.

Just like the Nintendo built on its experience with the NES to develop the Super NES, they could do the same with a Super Switch. Additionally, Zach believes the term ‘Switch Pro’ has a lot of negativity attached to it at this point. So Super Switch could help ease some of those feelings.
