PlayStation 5 was launched back in November 2020, and fans couldn’t be happier. Sony’s latest console was powerful and innovative enough to keep every gamer satisfied. But its launch was plagued by a supply shortage, hence not everyone was able to get their hands on it.
It only became widely available in 2023; Sony even took the stage to announce this stability in its stocks. They also announced a sales milestone for this console. And now that fans have started hearing the rumors of a PlayStation 6, they are not sure if they want one yet.

PlayStation 5 has started the third year of its lifecycle, but some would say it has only started. The reason for such a thing is the lack of any prominent next-gen games on this console.

Most first-party games that saw release on the PlayStation 5 were cross-gen. From Horizon Forbidden West to God of War: Ragnarok, the PlayStation 5 has shared every blockbuster with its older sibling.
And this is the reason fans think of 2023 as PlayStation 5’s first prominent year. Games like Final Fantasy XVI and Spider-Man 2 are set to give the PlayStation 5’s existence a reason.
And when people start hearing about a console getting a successor even though they have yet to see the best of it, it’s obvious they would not want it. And maybe that’s the reason PS fans are currently not interested in a PlayStation 6.
Even PS VR 2, which launched just recently, there would be no point in Sony making it obsolete so close to its launch. Of course, the next generation of PlayStation is pretty inevitable, but that does not mean it should happen for the next couple of years.
