It is a well-established fact that Epic Games has never disappointed when being creative with updates. Speaking about updates, Epic is going to release its update 17.40 for Fortnite by next week. Based on the leaked information surfacing regarding this upcoming update, it seems likely that there are major changes. This can be affirmed from how Fortnite leakers have started speculating about the possibility of an upcoming Fortnite RPG mode or a Fortnite spin-off.

Fortnite data miner and leaker Hypex share two images on their Twitter account that is said to be tied to an upcoming Fortnite LTM codenamed Saturn. Hypex assumes the possibility that these teasers are potentially hinting towards a new open-world RPG game mode. Another Twitter user, Shiina, reveals that v17.40 currently has 700 builds on testing servers. Comparing it with the last update (Rift Tour), where only 400 builds were introduced. This should give the players an idea about the massive size of the 17.40 update.

In the two teaser images posted by Hypex, we can see a part of Fortnite characters armed with standard weapons from the fantasy genre. They are Jonesy, Fishstick (with spear and shield), Peely (with magical sceptre), and Cuddle Team Leader (with bow). They are all armed with swords, spears, and shields. Arrows fly towards the team as a gigantic ape-like opponent in armour strikes while being attacked from behind.

The two teaser images leaked from the testing builds of Saturn LTM heavily tease for Fortnite to get new weapons POIs and a quite likely, a very own boss battle.

Hypex is very cautious with this new information, while typically they’re usually quite sure of what they know is coming to Fortnite shortly. Epic’s plans for Fortnite remain a mystery. As a result, it’s advisable not to jump to any conclusions based on these two leaks.

What we can anticipate coming bundled in an open-world experience could be a wave-based defensive game or survivor mode, but we’ll have to wait and find out. As a prospective path for Fortnite, it’s a really intriguing idea, and it may bring in people looking for more than just a battle royale mode in the game.
