Video games have been progressing at a very rapid rate. From different perspectives, genres have evolved into covering different art styles too. And among indie games, an attractive art style is one of the biggest requirements. In order to succeed, they have to look unique. AAA games like The Last of Us, and God of War can do without that by having lifelike visuals, but games like Scarlet Deer Inn have to take a completely different path.
Recently, the developers of the game decided to share it on Twitter and share some insights about it with gamers.

Scarlet Deer Inn aims to attract gamers with its unique art style and peculiar story!
Pixel art is very popular amongst indie games. Dead Cells, Hyper Light Drifter, Stardew Valley, etc. gain a lot by looking all pixelated yet beautiful. Other games like Cuphead, Hades, and Hollow Knight take a different path altogether, yet they shine nonetheless. These games might look very minimalistic, but they have earned a lot of praise due to their distinguishable art styles.
The point here is that every indie developer knows they have to design their game keeping one thing in mind, it must look unique. And Eva Navratilova, the creator of Scarlet Deer Inn, knows this too. Hence, she decided to develop her game in a way that no one had ever attempted before. She embroidered the animation frames for this game. The official Steam store page of her game says, “each character frame is physically embroidered, and the music is made using traditional instruments.”
Hi, I'm making a game where all characters have embroidered animation. pic.twitter.com/nMgNOsCNKc

And as a result, the game looks like those big-budget Level 5 games, but with textures and smoother animations. When someone asked the creator how this game works, she mentioned, “The frames are drawn, stitched, scanned, cropped. Then we add lines and shadows.”
For those interested in knowing about it, this game is basically an adventure platformer; players would be exploring this beautifully crafted world, meeting interesting characters, and experiencing moving stories filled with unforgettable moments.
Gamers are impressed by this new idea!
Many gamers were curious about this interesting new idea; they had questions, and others just wanted to try it out. This thing sure has attracted a lot of attention, and it shows on Twitter.
Considering that the embroidery effect on the character is barely noticeable, is it truly worth the effort of purchasing sheets and thread, programming the machine to print the patterns, and scanning them just for this purpose?

I'm still a bit confused? The frames are drawn then stitched and then draw again?

This is so cool! All those sprites must take up a lot of physical space though, what do you do with them after you’ve finished scanning them? Pack then away in boxes?

Woah, that's really cool! It perfectly captures the feel of what I imagine a bedtime story looking like in physical form. Love seeing it when people do things simply for the love of the craft.
