According to the latest reports, the title that was released just two months ago has sold over 800k copies worldwide. That’s a major accomplishment for the game, especially considering the short period in which it achieved that feat.

Shin Megami Tensei V is an action RPG, published by Sega for Nintendo Switch. It witnessed an initial launch last year in November, and it is the fifth main entry in the iconic Shin Megami Tensei gaming series.

Also SMT 5 is a part of the bigger Megami Tensei universe. The success of the latest game will surely pave the way for the upcoming installments.

Shin Megami Tensei V sells more than 800,000 units worldwide

As per the newest report, the game has now sold 800,000+ copies across the globe. The title also crossed its 3DS predecessor Shin Megami Tensei IV. The latter had previously sold more than 600,000 copies in its complete run. Simply put, the fifth installment is now the best-selling game in the franchise.

For those who don’t know, Shin Megami Tensei V is a critically acclaimed JRPG title. On Metacritic, it has a solid score of 85, based on 89 critic reviews, as of the time of writing.

What does the game offer?

The game takes its design from past entries like Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Shin Megami Tensei IV; Kazuyuki Yamai is the director of the popular game, the fifth one. SMT 5 has traditional gameplay mechanics, like raising and fusing demons. Its story is set in modern-day Tokyo and the Netherworld.

When it comes to the playing experience itself, the story sees the protagonist, a high-school student, accidentally learning about rumors related to demons appearing in a tunnel. Upon entering the tunnel, an earthquake occurs, leading to the player falling unconscious. After waking up, the character finds himself in a Da’at. Da’at is an apocalyptic version of the city of Tokyo, where a deadly battle is going on.
