The sales of the six-year-old Nintendo Switch has considerably shot up in Japan over the last few days. Moreover, this might be the beginning of an all-new chapter of the console’s hype in the industry. But what has accounted for such a massive peak?

For six long years, the hybrid Nintendo console has kept its strong influence in the market. Over the years, Japan has proven its loyalty to the parent company of the iconic Switch console. Initially, when the company announced a crimson-red Mario-themed edition, analysts were skeptical about how the world would respond. But once again, Japan hasn’t disappointed in showing why it’s considered the gaming hub of the world. The newly launched Mario-themed edition has resulted in a peak spike in the six-year-old console.

This isn’t the first time a rebranded version of the console has helped the bankability of Nintendo Switch. Earlier, the release of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom console edition had also witnessed a similar spike. The Splatoon edition’s peak remains among the biggest sales turnarounds in the console’s long-run history.

Meanwhile, with Super Mario Bros. Wonder being just around the corner, this recent development isn’t much of a surprise either for most of the gaming fans.

In the fiscal year ending in March 2024, Nintendo hopes to sell 15 million Switch consoles globally, a 17% decrease from the prior year. Sales are predicted by Zhu and experts like Hideki Yasuda of Toyo Securities to exceed Nintendo’s customarily modest projection.

The Analytical projections claimed the company would sell 3 million consoles by the end of 2023. Meanwhile, it is important to note that Nintendo has already surpassed these projections with the big holiday season yet to come. Not to forget that the rumors around a Nintendo Switch 2 release in the first quarter of 2024 are also running hot in the industry. Besides a new-gen hybrid console set to make its big release in the coming months, the craze for the six-year-old format with some new rebranding techniques seems to be working wonders for the developers.
