Jim Ryan gives a huge number for PlayStation 5 to achieve

In a recent games business briefing, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan shared his thought on PlayStation console sales. He firmly believes in the product they have created. Furthermore, he said the PlayStation 5 will break the 100 million sales worldwide mark. Talking about a definite number, he believes their latest console will have over 108 million sales worldwide across its life cycle.

“Yes, I would anticipate that over the life of the PlayStation 5, that we should be able to exceed a figure of 70 million on top of the 38 million [we have achieved],” Ryan said in the Q&A section of the meeting’s webcast. However, this sales number for PS5 will still fall short of its predecessor. The PlayStation 4 has currently achieved over 117 million sales worldwide across its life cycle.

However, Ryan also had a valid reason for stating this. And he thinks if these reasons are resolved, the latest-gen console can set history in the console sales.

Jim Ryan intends to Convert the PS4 user base to the latest console

Giving his reasons for lesser sales of PS5, Ryan said, “The reason I say that is the 70 million I think is the existing PlayStation 4 user base.”

He hopes in the future to convert a large amount of PS4 users to PS5. But he is also focusing the company’s efforts on bringing people over from other consoles and new users who have never owned one. While concluding his thoughts, he said, “I am very optimistic over the life of this platform that we will exceed the number that you mentioned.”
