Sony Exec Reveals the Tiers PlayStation Plus User Base Opts for the Most, Responds on the Xbox Game Pass Competition

Microsoft has finally acquired Activision Blizzard King for its Xbox brand. The library of Xbox Game Studios has increased tenfold, and people have started talking about the future of Xbox pretty enthusiastically. While it is true that Xbox might not be able to make Call of Duty an exclusive or bring it to the Xbox Game Pass yet, They still have several games to shuffle through. giving tough competition to the PlayStation Plus.
Many might see it as a big win for the Xbox brand, but does PlayStation think so too? A Sony executive has hinted that their PlayStation Plus numberers are undeterred by this. And they have backed it up with some numbers!

Microsoft’s recent purchase of Activision Blizzard King has shaken the gaming industry to its core. Many had been seeing this move as a way to control one of the biggest video game franchises in the industry, but Microsoft succeeded in proving that claim wrong by expanding the reach of that franchise even more by promising Call of Duty for the Nintendo Switch too. Yet their Xbox Game Pass service saw a significant rise in subscribers, effectively raising Microsoft’s gaming revenue by close to 9%.

But it looks like PlayStation is not much affected by this either. Recently, while talking to Barrons.com, Sony executive Eric Lempel claimed around one-third of PlayStation players opt for the top two tiers of PlayStation Plus. For those unaware, Sony had announced three tiers for the PS Plus with the following pricing:
- PS Plus Essential 12-month subscription: $79.99
- Extra 12-month subscription: $134.99
- Premium 12-month subscription: $159.99
The difference comes down to their offering the greatest number of games. The highest tier gives subscribers pretty much everything that the lower tiers have and more. He even had something interesting to say on this matter.

“It comes down to what you are going to get in the service in terms of the type of games and the quality of games.” This sure makes sense, and it’s sure good to see both companies doing better even though the market has become much more competitive than it ever was.
Sony also sees promise in the upcoming PlayStation 5 model.
The new PlayStation 5 was announced a while ago via a PlayStation blog. This new console, dubbed the PlayStation 5 Slim by many, is going to be released with a detachable Blu-ray drive, giving fans the option to opt for a disc-less version and buy the drive at a later date.

Sony is expecting some really good sales this holiday season. Executive Lampel stated this is because, for the first time since launch, this is the holiday season when they have a full supply of PlayStation 5 consoles.
