Will Harry be the host to Venom in Spider-Man 2?

Venom remains one of the most iconic villains in the Spider-Man franchise. His relationship with the friendly-neighborhood spider is complicated. An ally and a foe, Venom, and Spider-Man saw a wide variety of arcs throughout the superhero’s history. However, with Spider-Man 2, fans do not know who will play host to the symbiote.

One theory is Harry Osborn. Harry’s appearance in the first game was minimum, coming on screen only during the credits scene. Subsequently, in the sequel, the character makes a full-blown appearance. In the initial scene, during Harry and Peter’s conversation, Harry says, “We’re going to heal the world.” Much to fans’ surprise, a Venom scene toward the end of the trailer sees Venom say the exact same words.

Could this be an indication that it is none other than Harry who plays host to the symbiote? What adds to this is an after-credits scene from the first game. Norman Orsborn, Harry’s father, visits him as he is kept in a vat of green liquid, covered in a black substance. This could be the Venom symbiote, being used to treat Harry’s terminal disease that he inherited from his mother. If Harry is indeed Venom, it brings an interesting avenue for Insomniac. They could push the Goblin family plotline through it.

How will the story play out?

What has fans puzzled is how Insomniac plays this story out. Through the reveal trailer, fans already know Peter will play host to the symbiote at some point in the game. With the new opening in the gameplay, it will be an interesting turn of events. However, what fans cannot figure out is how Peter bonds with Venom in the first place. It could bring an interesting twist to the story. Moreover, if Insomniac is hiding Venom being a playable character, it could potentially mean a newer perspective to the character, similar to playing Abby in The Last of Us Part II.

Will he become the host to save Harry from the symbiote? What changes will Venom brings to Peter’s personality? With obvious signs of increased aggression, both Miles and MJ see a change in Peter. The superhero who makes quips during combat turns angry when fighting enemies. Needless to say, Spider-Man 2 is going to be one of the biggest releases of 2023.
