Splendid News for The Last of Us Fans as TV Series Finally Lands Its Main Directors

After a tumultuous start to the production process because of the pandemic, Sony has now come up with news that will overjoy the fans. The studio has recently announced the hiring of Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi as the lead directors. The TV series has already found its main protagonist, Pedro Pascal, from Mandalorian, who will play the role of Joel. Meanwhile, Bella Ramsey and Gabriel Luna have joined the cast as Ellie and Tommy, respectively.

The Last of Us will continue production with two legendary directors

According to a report by Variety, the production will begin on July 5, 2021, and it will wrap up on June 8, 2022. Jasmila Žbanić has already earned international recognition for her feature film ‘Quo Vadis, Aida’. This movie will compete for the best international feature film in the upcoming 93rd Oscar awards. She even earned a nomination for best director in the 74th British Academy Awards.

Meanwhile, Ali Abbasi also garnered recognition for his remarkable work in the industry as well. Abbasi has produced two remarkable projects, as one project of his even earned a feature in the 2018’s Cannes International Film Festival. The pilot episode of the series will be directed by Kantemir Balagov, who has also produced the well-known project Beanpole.

Craig Mazin will join the project as executive producer and writer alongside Neil Druckmann. Neil has also worked on the video game as a writer and creative director. Naughty Dog’s president Evan Wells, PlayStation Productions’ head Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will also take on the role of executive producers.

Sony has decided to turn this series into live-action adaptions for various reasons. It has already been produced remarkable results, as the community regards the first title as the greatest game of all time. The franchise has produced two titles that have gone on to win the prestigious ‘Game of the Year’ award for their respective year. This has cemented them as the most prominent intellectual property that Sony has ever produced.
