Bethesda confirmed a ton of new details about their upcoming release Starfield at the Xbox Showcase 2023 on June 11. Through the official launch of the Starfield Direct, the devs released a lot of details on not only the star systems of the game but also gave insights into the dominant factions as well.

Bethesda announced the names of five of the most prominent factions of Starfield; which are United Colonies, Constellation, Ryujin Industries, Freestar Collective, and Crimson Fleet. The developers also highlighted that players can freely join more than one of these factions.

Factions with long ties and dispute: Fans have to find their allegiance

As revealed in the Showcase, each of these factions has different goals and missions that players can take up. Working for more than one faction may sometimes result in a clash of interests, but players are not going to be restricted from anywhere during their explorations. Starting out as a worker for a mining group, Argos Extractors, players will ultimately be led by fate into joining their choice of faction.

Many of these factions have a history with each other that include wars, while others have been a group of space pirates. Along with factions, players will also have to choose their religious traits at the beginning of the game, which is likely to become a defining aspect of their in-game characters.

Details on the Factions

The United Colonies is a formidable military force, that “represent the future of space republic idealized“. New Atlantis, their capital is one of the largest Starfield cities. Even though it has a long past of war with the Freestar Collective, the two factions are now at mutual peace. Serving for the Vanguard, the mighty military service of the United Colonies, players can gain citizenship of the faction.

The Constellation Faction is likely to host the main narrative of the story and is also the first major faction that players can affiliate themselves with. As a member of the group, players may have to travel to a post-catastrophic Earth to find some long-lost alien relic.

Ryujin Industries is like a massive multi-planetary corporation that is the epitome of corporate life. The developers hint that this faction may have the best arch among all the factions, which includes players having to go through a bizarre interview experience just to get an affiliate position.

Snatching their independence from the United Colonies, Freestar Collective is the space cowboys of Starfield. Now their primary focus is achieving peace in volatile regions space.

Players also get to either sign up directly as a pirate or go undercover to join the Crimson Fleet faction. The faction is highly speculated as the main villain of the game.

With so many different options to create ties with, players have to use every bit of their personalities to decide on which group to join that can serve their journey best.
