Starfield has finally hit the stores, and pretty much everyone has their hands on this new game. Even those who did not purchase the Premium Edition can now play this sci-fi open-world RPG from Bethesda Games.

But many of them must have noticed that this game is not as easy to start playing as they might have thought. Besides the usual steps in character creation, Starfield also makes players select from a bunch of traits.

A quick guide on how to choose the best traits

For those unaware, traits can be selected to give your character small pros and cons; you get something and you lose something. But knowing exactly what you want is important. Also, one must remember that they can select up to three traits from this list.

Alien DNA

This gives the player character an edge over others, as the alien DNA in their body will give them increased health and oxygen. However, they will heal less through healing items and food.

Dream Home

This one gives players a very luxurious and expensive house. But this also brings the debt of that house’s loan on their heads, which they are required to pay back on a weekly basis.

Empath

It makes the player’s character very connected to the feelings of others. This will give them and their companions increased effectiveness during combat if they perform actions their companions like. But if they perform an action no one cares for, it can have the opposite effect.

Extrovert

Being an extrovert has an interesting effect on the character. This means that when players go around exploring with companions, they consume less oxygen. However, when they are alone, it has the opposite effect.

Freestar Collective Settler

Freestar Collective is an in-game faction, and if players choose this trait, they gain additional dialogue options when interacting with other Freestar members. But this also increases the player’s crime bounty with other factions.

Hero Worshipped

This trait gives the player character an adoring fan; he is a very annoying companion that would eat the player’s head all the time.

However, the occasional gift and an extra hand on the crew might be what you are looking for.

Kid Stuff

One of the most interesting traits in the game is one that gives the player character parents. They will visit you, ask you to get married, and even discuss how they are jealous of other parents because their kid is doing better—yes, all the typical parent stuff.

On the negative side, players have to send a set number of credits to them on a weekly basis.

Neon Street Rat

This trait makes you a citizen of Neon, a city full of people who are mostly on the other side of the law. This perk gives players a special dialogue option when dealing with people on Neon. Once again, the crime bounty with other factions will significantly increase.

Raised Enlightened

Enlightened is a religious group of sorts. If players choose this trait, this would mean they would gain support from the group and also get a chest full of items in House of the Enlightened in New Atlantis.

The only con of this one is that they would lose access to the items of other religions.

Raised Universal

This is yet another religious group in the game. Choosing this trait gives players access to a chest in Sanctum Universum. Naturally, this would mean that the players will not have access to the Enlightened chest.

Serpent’s Embrace

Players who select this trait will have a character who grew up worshipping The Great Serpent. The result is that players get a temporary boost to health and oxygen when they jump. However, on the flip side, their health and oxygen levels suffer when they do not jump constantly.

Spaced

Players get more health and oxygen in space and less health and oxygen on the surface if they choose this trait. Players will have to think hard about how they plan to play Starfield before deciding whether to choose this.

Taskmaster

If players choose the crew trained in a certain ship system, the ship occasionally ends up repairing itself whenever its damage is below 50%.

However, like with all traits, there’s a drawback to this trait as well. In this case, the crew charges get doubled.

Terra Firma

For those who were interested in the Spaced trait, this trait will be something to take into account before making a decision. The effect of this trait is the exact opposite of that of Spaced. Players who choose Terra Firma will get more health and oxygen on the surface and less of them in space.

United Colonies Native

This means the player belongs to the United Colonies. They get additional dialogue options when dealing with people in the United Colonies. Also, better rewards for missions are given by this faction. Once again, crime bounty with the other factions increases significantly.

Wanted

You are always wanted; someone has placed a bounty on your head, and people will keep trying to kill you and claim that bounty. This is for players who always want to play the game on the edge!
