Street Fighter Takes the Video Game-Cinematic Adaptation Baton to Take Fans on an Action Drive

As the hype train of Video game adaptations dominates the current movie and television industry, another iconic IP, Street Fighter, sells its rights to a prominent studio to produce live-action feature-length movies. Moreover, television series are also tabled, adapting the story from the games, as well as the characters and themes. 

In the world of fighting games, one of the most iconic titles is Capcom’s Street Fighter series. Featuring some of the most iconic characters in gaming history, like Ryu, Chun-Li, M. Bison, and more. Recent reports have revealed that the makers of Detective Pikachu and Dune have acquired the rights to the franchise.

According to the latest sources, Yes! The Studio behind Enola Holmes, Dune, Detective Pikachu, and more, Legendary, has acquired the right to the franchise. The reports suggest that a new feature-length live-action movie and television series is currently under development by the studio.

Taking their lesson from HBO’s The Last of Us series, which had hired the original creators alongside veteran writers from the industry to develop the adaptation. Legendary will also collaborate with Capcom for making the Live action adaptations. Refraining from making the mistakes made by previous adaptations.

Previously the franchise was adapted for a live-action movie back in 1994. This version starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, and Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, among others. But the movie tanked severely as the producer failed to capture the story as well as the charm of the classic franchise.

In 2009 a new adaptation was also made, focusing on the iconic Martial artist Chun-Li, named, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Though this adaptation tried to take a new approach, in the end, it failed to deliver. Moreover, there have been some animated adaptations of the series that had managed to win a lot of acclaim. 

Expectations are high with the new adaptation, especially now that the series is all set to launch its latest installment in the series, Street Fighter 6. The sixth installment will hit the PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this June. So Capcom has revealed that the initial release will have 18 characters on the roster
