Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to 2017’s action RPG Horizon Zero Dawn, which was one of the contenders for the Game of the Year in 2022. Building up on that success, the developers of Guerrilla Games came up with more interesting content, the Burning Shores DLC, for the fans this year to enjoy more Horizon action in 2023.

The events of the new DLC occur after the game’s main story, so for starters, finishing the game will be the priority. However, one of the best ways to get an edge in the game is to have some excellent abilities. So, let’s find out about the skills that players should have to dominate Horizon Forbidden West.

9. Medicine Capacity

When it comes to medicines, it is never enough. So the wisest and the only possible thing that can be done is to carry as much of it as possible. Horizon Forbidden West players should focus on unlocking both levels of Medicine Capacity from the Survivor Skill tree, allowing them to carry more with them on the journey across the Forbidden West.

8. Potion Proficiency

Potion Proficiency is another crucial Survivor Skill to have in this game. Because of this, the health potions heal faster and it takes less time to consume all types of potions. This skill has a second level that fans should unlock for even better outcomes.

7. Plant Forager

Herb gathering is vital because it aids in the creation of numerous potions and medicinal recipes in the game. Horizon Forbidden West only allows players to pick one herb. But the Survivor Skill, Plant Forager, removes this restriction, allowing players to gather more resources from plants.

  • Skill Point Cost: 2
  • Required Skill: Valor on Impact

6. Burst Fire

In Horizon Forbidden West, one of the Warrior Skills is Burst Fire. It enables players to fire three arrows of any kind in a rapid burst. It does, however, consume a small part of the Weapon’s Stamina. This skill comes the handiest against flying machines if used with a proper arrow.

  • Skill Point Cost: 2
  • Required Skill: Power Attack+

5. Triple Notch

The Triple Notch is a Hunter skill that allows players to load up to three arrows of any kind. The player then fires all those arrows at once. This skill is very useful and was present in the past game, but it’s been a little nerfed down compared to Horizon Zero Dawn. Like Burst Fire, it also takes some toll on the Weapon’s Stamina.

  • Skill Point Cost: 3
  • Required Skill: High Volley

4. Concentration+

Another Hunter Skill that players should get as soon as possible in Horizon Forbidden West is Concentration+. As the name suggests, this skill enhances the concentration of the player’s in-game character, Alloy. It slows down time while a player is aiming. This is most useful for those who fight with longer-range weapons.

  • Required Skill: None

3. Woodbench Expert

The Hunter Skill tree has some of the most valuable skills in this 2022 game, giving players an advantage in early gameplay. Woodbench Expert is one such skill, however, it is useless in combat. Instead, this skill aids with creating ammo at any Workbench while utilizing fewer resources.

  • Skill Point Cost: 3
  • Required Skill: None

2. Sustained Burst

Sustained Burst is a Hunter Skill that unleashes the player’s entire Boltblaster clip in rapid succession onto the enemy. If players already unlock the Concentration+, this skill would have an even more devastating effect on the enemies. But the only drawback is that it chips away a large amount of Weapon Stamina.

  • Required Skill: Spread Blast

The Splitting Spike from the Machine Master skills is the final skill that players should learn as soon as possible. When a player uses this skill to throw a spike at the enemy, it splits into a number of projectiles that impact a larger area. It only takes away a medium amount of the Weapon’s Stamina.
