“That Is an Excellent Observation”- Starfield Director Todd Howard Addresses the Responsibility of Carrying the Legacy of Space Games Like Galaga and Space Invaders

With Starfield‘s release this September, our constellation journey has finally begun. This means the excitement about Starfield has also taken the next dimension with famous streamers and even Hollywood celebrities losing their sleep over this game. Following this immense popularity, the Washington Post questioned video game’s Christopher Nolan Todd Howard on Starfield’s legacy. 

Howard’s response hinted to fans about his immense pride in making history with Starfield. After spending $200m on the game’s production, the anticipation among the team grew stronger. Now following the great responses among fans, Todd Howard seemed to fulfill his tribute to the genre of space-themed games. 

Bethesda boss agrees to Starfield’s legacy in the history of space-themed video games

In their recent interview, the Washington Post questioned Todd Howard whether he agrees with Starfield’s legacy in space-themed video games. which started in 1962 with Spacewar. Developed initially in an MIT science lab, Spacewar gradually became the grandfather of video games. Its legacy was further followed by many popular productions like Asteroids, and Space Invaders. Washington Post mentioned that since Starfield’s narrative followed space combat and space exploration like Galaga, therefore Todd Howard has to carry forward the legacy with outstanding work.

In Howard’s response, it seemed Bethesda’s executive director was already confident about Starfield’s talent-“That is an excellent observation, and I think I’ve done enough interviews for this game and no one’s mentioned that, so I appreciate that,” He mentioned that he grew up with video games, where space games occupied a huge place. He mentioned names like Elite, Star Raiders and SunDog in his list of favorites.

Further, Todd Howard spoke about how he loved the game Traveller more than in Dungeons and Dragons platform game mentioning that he still keeps an original box of the game in his office. Now following Starfield’s release and the huge response it has received from fans, it seemed like Todd Howard kept his promise of carrying forward the legacy of space-themed video games.

Is Todd Howard making an Indiana Jones game?

Since Bethesda announced its collaboration with LucasFilm Games in 2021, fans cannot wait to know further about this project. While developers just mentioned that it might be an exclusive Indiana Jones title, people are yet to know more about it. However, with Bethesda’s mentioned of Todd Howard as its director, fans are expecting something huge. Some sources previously suggested that Bethesda might use an original story of this fan-favorite archaeologist in the title.

Recently in an interview, Howard was asked about this game, where he spoke about how he always wanted to make a game based on Professor Jones’ story. Now with Bethesda’s collaboration, his dreams will finally come into reality.

Furthermore, sources suggested that Bethesda’s upcoming Indiana Jones title might be at its early development stage. Therefore, interest people can check out Bethesda’s Xbox exclusive outer space-themed RPG, Starfield.
