“That Last One Has to Be a Joke” – “The Last of Us” Fans Jubilant Yet Puzzled by One Surprising Nomination at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards

HBO’s The Last of Us is arguably the best-ever video game adaptation in history. It has received excellent ratings across numerous platforms to back up this claim. The series itself has been received very well with the reactions to it being overwhelmingly positive, with even the WWE Legend ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin becoming a huge fan of the series set in a post-apocalyptic world.

It was expected that the adaptation of the 2013 Game of the Year will get nominated for awards. Now, The MTV Movie & TV Awards has nominated the series in various categories. However, there was one category that took the fanbase by surprise. Everyone is unable to wrap their heads around the reason for that nomination.

“Tess & Stalker’s Kiss” from The Last of Us is the “Best Kiss”

The MTV Movie & TV Awards is an annual award that honors movies and TV series for their excellence. In 2023’s edition, MTV Awards has nominated The Last of Us in five categories. Moreover, Tess and Stalker’s kiss in this post-apocalyptic show is nominated for Best Kiss. It is undoubtedly a major shock for fans, as this kiss made a number of fans feel awkward seeing it.

But aside from this weird nomination, the other four are not as surprising as many fans have predicted them to win. HBO’s The Last of Us has also been nominated for Best Show of this year, which might not be that surprising after looking at all the ratings and reviews it has received. It would be amazing if it wins in this category, as the original game was the Game of the Year in 2013.

Apart from this, Bella Ramsey has been nominated for Breakthrough Performance for her mind-blowing portrayal of Ellie. Pedro Pascal also won hearts with his protective-father-like portrayal of Joel in this HBO adaptation, so he would compete in the Best Hero category. Moreover, this duo will also compete against some other duos for the Best Duo title

How did fans feel about this nomination?

Fans were stunned to see this kissing scene from the show get nominated for Best Kiss. They instead voiced that MTV Movie & TV Awards should have nominated the intimate moment between Bill and Frank, or Ellie’s kiss with Riley.
