Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate III was one of the most anticipated games of 2023. This role-playing video game was the third installment in the main Baldur’s Gate franchise. Although a partial version of the game was available for Windows, Mac and Stadia users since 2023, Baldur’s Gate III was fully released on the 3rd of August 2023 on the Windows platform. Mac and PlayStation 5 users still have to wait till the 6th of September this year to receive the full version of the game. Developers confirmed an Xbox X/S series port, but a date is yet to be announced in the media. 

However, within a day of its Steam launch, Baldur’s Gate III made a record for the developers on the platform. After receiving much praise from the fans since its trailer launch, this game now reached the title of the second biggest Steam launch of the year.

According to a source, this game recently featured over 418,991 concurrent players on the platform. Now, following this astonishing number of players interested in the game, Baldur’s Gate III became the second biggest Steam launch of the year. This Dungeons & Dragons-inspired tabletop RPG stole the fans’ hearts with its improvised gameplay and beautiful narrative.

Apart from Baldur’s Gate III, there was fan favorite Hogwarts Legacy. Avalanche Software’s RPG defeated all the games to earn the title of the biggest Steam launch game of 2023. Hogwarts Legacy showed a promising number of 879,308 concurrent players since its launch in May. One more game on the list is Sons of The Forest, which earned 414,257 active Steam players to bag the third position. This survival horror-themed game was developed by Endnight Games and received much appreciation from the players. 

Fans seemed not-at-all surprised about the list

This year’s list of biggest Steam launches is topped by Hogwarts Legacy with Baldur’s Gate III at the second position. Fans seemed happy looking at Hogwarts Legacy’s success after the initial ban-related controversy- “It’s crazy how big Hogwarts Legacy has been so far despite the “boycott” that obviously failed.”

Fans were excited to experience Baldur’s Gate III and were enquiring about people’s initial impression of Baldur’s Gate III- “The game is enormous, can’t wait to dig in! How’s everyone’s first impressions?”

Fans also spoke about Hogwarts Legacy’s huge marketing campaigns for years- “Baldur’s Gate III on the other hand is reliying almost exclusively on word of mouth. That’s an insane achievement.”

The number of active players in these games was really appreciated by people.
