Being the direct sequel to the highly acclaimed Breath of the Wild, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is undoubtedly one of the biggest gaming releases of the year. While the game is receiving straight-up perfect scores all around the board, fans are upset that it is missing a beloved feature that was also absent in the first game.

Tears of the Kingdom has baffled gamers and critics alike with its impressive attention to detail. Although TOTK improves in many areas that were lacking in the first game, it fails to add one highly requested element – the ability to interact with wildlife and domestic animals in its massive open world.

Unfortunately, you can’t pet them in the game, despite having highly detailed dogs and wolves. The player can interact with none of them. They may look at you while you pass by or try to play with you, but you can’t give these good boys a much-deserving caress of affection. Even after a plethora of fan posts begging for petting features in TOTK, it seems Nintendo is still stern with its non-petting policy.

The dogs in the sequel are mostly friendly toward the character. They roll on their backs and try to play with them, which makes the community even more upset. Fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment and ask why they can’t pet the dogs and give them a belly rub. However, despite that, they do serve a purpose, as we can feed them to gain their trust. In return, they will lead you to treasures and equipment.

The lack of a petting option only feels like salt in an open wound. The fans and community members couldn’t help but make fun of Nintendo’s miss. One Twitter user said, “If you pet it, it would run out of durability and be broken,” while another added, “You just convinced me not to buy it. No petting, no money.” Even the official Twitter account of Among Us added, “DEVASTATING NEWS. I MAY NEVER RECOVER.”
