The Last of Us game was never about a post-apocalyptic world, it was about some people in a post-apocalyptic world. The conflicts never came in that game due to those monsters. Yes, they provided some moments of thrills, but they were never the main focus. Nor was the main character Ellie’s immunity, it was just a narrative device for some time.

She got her third shock in the previous episode, which was aptly named “Endure and survive”. Henry refused to endure and never saw a point in survival once his kid brother died. His brother died because he got infected. And both their deaths devastated Ellie a little bit.
The only person that she had during this time was Joel. By this point, they have been through a lot together and she hopes to see the end of it holding his hands. But in the next episode, they would meet Joel’s brother Tommy.

Now the spoilers would follow, please beware if you want to go into the next episode. When they meet Tommy, Joel would ask him to take charge of Ellie as he used to hang with the fireflies and he would have a better idea of where their headquarters can be found.
She does not like this idea and runs away from Tommy’s camp. Joel follows and when he finds her, they have a long emotional conversation.
She reminds him how she never knew a normal life and she wants to see the world get better. Then she tells him that she understands Joel thinks of her as a burden.

The point of it all is, they end up opening up to each other like never before and end up realizing the bond they have.
The way this episode hits its viewers would depend on the writers. There hasn’t been any lack of excellent dialogue in this series as of yet, we know performances would be perfect too. These two leads have already proven their acting skills.
