The Last of Us is a franchise that needs no introduction. Especially from someone who knows its massive significance in the gaming culture. Ever since the first title was unveiled nearly a decade ago, in 2013, this PlayStation saga has witnessed astronomical success. So it only makes sense to keep the popularity going up with The Last of Us Part III – the next chapter in the memorable series.

In fact, after the record-breaking success of HBO Max’s recently released live-action adaptation, doing a third installment will only benefit the overall brand of The Last of Us. However, Neil Druckmann, the co-creator of the series, has a different opinion on this situation. According to him, making a third part will only depend on one condition. Media outlet Buzzfeed recently had an in-depth interview with Mr. Druckmann. “Our process is the same thing we did when we did Part 2, which is if we can come up with a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love — just like the first and second game did — then we will tell that story. If we can’t come up with something, we have a very strong ending with Part 2 and that will be the end.”

Simply put, he doesn’t want to bring a third part just to make another sequel. Only if he ends up finding a reason to make The Last of Us Part III, he and his team at Naughty Dog will make a move. Otherwise, 2020’s TLOU Part II will end up being the last offering in the fan-favorite series.
