The grand premiere of The Last of Us HBO series is closing in very soon. When the brand-new project, based on one of the most popular games of the last decade, was announced, it was met with some questionable mindsets. This was not because people were unhappy with the game or the new adaption. This frown was due to the reason that many live-action adaptations of video games have not been much fruitful in the past.

Though there have been exceptions like Netflix’s The Witcher, the number of adaptions getting tremendous and positive reviews was scarce. Now, as the first season of HBO’s The Last of Us is about to air, it has already garnered a lot of positive feedback from the critics.

Will HBO’s The Last of Us become the breaker of an infamous curse?

There has been a sort of curse that had fallen upon video game adaptions. Thus, there was a fright of whether The Last of Us would succumb to the old jinx or not. However, according to the critics, the series is actually a curse lifter in all its entirety. Currently, it has a Metacritic Score of 82 based on 18 critic reviews.

The series has a 100%, as of this writing, on the Average Tomatometer of Rotten Tomatoes which is pointing towards the success of the HBO studio in nailing this adaption. This situation might change as more reviews get published after its release. But for now, this is a remarkable achievement of the show.

Another questionable aspect that people had towards the show was the portrayal of Ellie. Many were seen not much positive to see Bella Ramsey portraying the iconic character. But according to the raving reviews so far, Bella has done complete justice to the role, with utmost perfection.

“Bella Ramsey is simply electrifying as Ellie”, stated Simon Cardy from IGN. Pedro Pascal who is portraying Joel in the series has also received tremendous positive reactions.

The Collider has given the series an A+ Rating and called it one of the greatest adaptions based on a video game. Without a doubt, such an early reception will surely excite the fans who must be hyped already to watch the HBO show. Especially given the fact that the release date is just around the corner.

Amidst all these positive critical responses, a question surely will arise. That is, how did the makers succeed in adapting the game into a series without infringing the standard that the predecessor has created.
