The Last of Us Series Breaks Yet Another HBO Record With Its ‘Phenomenal’ Popularity

The Last of Us has been witnessing tremendous popularity since the release of its pilot episode on January 15. Prior to its release also the series got tremendous responses. It became one of the first critically acclaimed series of 2023.

Surely the first episode broke several records of many HBO original series. And now, as they aired the second episode, it hyped up the show even more. This episode also did not break any expectations and, like its predecessor, it also etched a record into its name.

The Last of Us broke yet another HBO record

One of the most anticipated series of this year was The Last of Us. Both gamers and non-gamers alike awaited it. There was also much tension surrounding the game. Especially because of the presence of the infamous ‘curse’. That is, the success rate of game adaptations into live movies or series was quite low.

But, The Last of Us rose to the occasion and shattered all the negative remarks to become the first major hit series of the year. Firstly, critics acclaimed it, and then the masses popularly accepted it. Now, the second episode also followed the same path. The episode was also a hit, and it even managed to create an HBO record.

The second episode of the series which was aired the last Sunday witnessed 5.7 million viewers in the US. It was a jump of about 22% compared to the first episode. Not only this, the second episode became the largest week 2 audience growth for an HBO Original Drama series in the history of the network.

The first episode raked around 4.7 million views on the premiere day. Moreover, it currently has around 18 million views, according to HBO.

There are 7 more episodes left to air in the series. It surely is a long journey and if the series maintains its current momentum, it surely will become one of the biggest series hits ever.

The studio has teased the third episode. We can see glimpses of Bill and Frank, who are two post-pandemic survivors living alone in their isolated towns in the teaser. None other than Nick Offerman plays Bill.
