The Last of Us was released years ago to set forth a financial success. The game was lauded as it changed people’s opinions about video game stories. And that’s why it got an equally successful sequel and a very good-looking remake.

This game series is now all ready to take a bunch of major steps. One is the rumored The Last of Us PlayStation 5 remake that is in the works.  Second is The Last of us 3 that the series creator has hinted at. And finally, its upcoming series is all set to premiere on January 15, 2023.

But Neil Druckmann recently revealed a piece of shocking information about the series.

The Last of Us series would have a huge difference from its video game

Usually, when a video game is translated into a live-action series or a movie it is very common for the developers to make some essential changes to it. The lore, environment, and sometimes even characters go through minor tweaks to make them more believable for an engrossing experience for the audience.

Collider for an interview. During that interview, he mentioned that this series would be missing the spores.

Fans would know that the spores are how this infection actually spreads in the series. Whenever characters see an area with spores and a bunch of cordyceps, they had to wear gas masks. But it seems they decided to remove that aspect to make this game close to science.

Neil specifically told Collider “We wanted to ground this show in as much science as possible. The game did it pretty darn well, especially for a genre where it would be easy to say, ‘Oh, there are zombies, but the zombies come out of the ground.’ Cordyceps is a fascinating concept, and it’s absolutely real.”

He also mentioned that the story had to go through several minute changes due to Covid 19. He said that the pandemic has made audiences smarter and now they know stuff, so they made changes to the story keeping that in mind.

We just hope the series lives up to the expectations of its already-established fanbase. We have already seen how fans react when something diverts too much from its source.

Sony is preparing a lot more live-action content to release in the future

Other than The Last of Us series, Sony is also in the process of developing a God of War live-action series. This series also has the game’s creative director Cory Barlog working closely with the writers to make sure the series is true to its source.

We do not have any other information about the God of War series yet, but we expect to see something soon. Moreover, a movie based on the Gran Turismo game series is already complete and will be released in August of 2023.
