And going by Mr Druckmann’s approach to the show, it seems like it will strictly follow its source material. That is, The Last of Us won’t make any unwanted adjustments just for the sake of shock value the way HBO’s previous series Game of Thrones did. The celebrated creator wants the awaited title to be true to the games he’s worked on for years now.

In simple words, The Last of Us must get everything right in terms of executing the most key aspects of being a video game-based series. However, along with that, it has to exceed the expectations of those viewers who want a perfect option to watch in the new year. They want a great show no matter what.

It seems like Neil Druckmann wants the same thing as well from the awaited title. In the interview with THR, he emphasized on the point of sticking to the roots. Simply put, he said that The Last of Us will not try to do anything beyond what’s there in the games. And that it will follow the source material completely without being over-ambitious.

He tried to explain it by giving an example of Game of Thrones. The latter tried to change what was there in famous writer George R.R. Martin‘s books. Eventually, it attracted widespread criticism across the globe. “We have no plans to tell any stories beyond adapting the games,” said Druckmann. “We won’t run into the same issue as Game of Thrones since Part II doesn’t end on a cliffhanger.”
