This encounter would toughen up Ellie for the last episode and also for a possible season 2. We already saw Ellie bond with Joel, who is like a father figure to her. Because of this dynamic between the two, Joel has always been the one to protect her from tough situations. But this time, that father figure wouldn’t be around to deal with the cannibals for the most part of this encounter.

From the seven episodes released so far, we also know that this series also shed light on other characters and their stories. So, there is a possibility we would get to know more about David and his cannibal group’s story. This will show Ellie the extents to which people can go to survive, which will make her the person in The Last of Us Part II.

Aside from David’s debut, this episode will bring the original Joel, Troy Baker. He is the voice actor of Joel Miller in the games. However, he wouldn’t be returning to take on the Joel mantle, as that belongs to Pedro Pascal in this adaptation.
